In 1873, a medical institution was opened in Aulie-Ata district, which was called the Emergency Assessment Unit. A small rented room was designed for 6 hospital beds only. Here was a small number of personnel represented by a doctor, doctor's assistant and midwife who admitted patients. They fought not only with diseases, but also with ignorance and inertia.

The history of the hospital is eventful and famous for people. We pay tribute to deep respect and honor the memory of those who stood at its origins, who honestly worked all these years and who devoted their lives to protecting the health of the nation.
As Zhambyl Region was formed in 1939, a hospital was established, which became the largest medical facility in 2000. It includes a hospital for 500 beds with 16 clinical and 8 paraclinical departments, advisory clinic, cardiology and endocrinology centers.
Until 1947, the city (today regional) hospital was located in a one-story building with stove heating. The number of therapeutic beds was only 32 where all patients received inpatient treatment (there was a general department). In 1949, the hospital was expanded and the number of therapeutic beds reached 60 (two therapeutic departments with 30 beds each).
In 1965, as a new three-story building was put into operation, a gastro-pulmonary department was opened. Despite the difficult time, medical workers worked hard with a particular enthusiasm and have proven themselves to be kind and responsive.
Over the years of existence, the regional hospital has strengthened its material and technical facilities. In 1966, a therapeutic 2-storey building was built, in 1969 a second 3-storey therapeutic building was built, in 1977 a typical building of the regional consultative clinic was opened at 41 Pushkin street. In 1982, a 4-storey modern surgical building was put into operation; in 1988, the building of the ophthalmological center was opened in Abay Street.
In 1972, the regional hospital opened an anesthesiology and resuscitation department with 6 beds. In 1974, an endocrinology department with 40 beds was opened at the hospital.
Many departments are equipped with modern medical equipment. In 1983, a laser scalpel in abdominal surgery was introduced here; in 1986 x-ray retrograde cholangiopancreatography and endovascular surgery was introduced; 1992 marked minimally invasive puncture surgery for abdominal tumors of the liver; in 1991 cardiac surgery for mitral heart disease and endoscopic surgery for inhalation surgery, stomach, pacemaker implantation in cardiac arrhythmias and others were practiced.
On July 1, 1980, a 30-bed vascular surgery department was established at the hospital. Emergency and planned operations were performed for aorta, peripheral arteries and veins. An x-ray examination was performed on the aorta and arteries (aortography, arteriography, etc.), embolization of the vessels of the spleen and liver was performed in case of cirrhosis, esophageal bleeding and varicocele.
In February 2002, a video-endoscopic laparoscopic surgical apparatus was installed at the hospital and the laparoscopic olecystectomy was put in practice. 2002 saw 24 laparoscopic cholecystectomies and 4 gynecological operations using a surgical laparoscope. In 2018, more than 500 laparoscopic operations (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, echinococcectomy, gynecological operations) were performed. The Method to stop bleeding from esophageal dilated veins in liver cirrhosis was introduced.
Since 2009 the hospital has a cardiac surgery ward for 20 beds, open-heart surgery for acquired and congenital defects and coronary artery bypass surgery for angina pectoris have been performed; electric cardiac pacemakers and other equipment have been installed. In October 2011, a new department which is an emergency cardiology department with 30 beds was put in place to provide medical care for acute coronary syndrome. In 2012 the Hospital saw an apparatus for x-ray examination of blood vessels. At any time of the day, our specialized doctors, trained in Kaunas, Novosibirsk, Almaty, Israel, are ready to provide emergency medical care to the patient for acute myocardial infarction, heart attack, coronary angiography and stenting of cardiac vessels. If necessary, there is shunting of heart vessels. Earlier, similar diagnostic studies and surgical interventions on the heart were conducted only in Almaty, Moscow, Novosibirsk, etc. Owing to modernization, the Department of Interventional and X-ray Vascular Surgery was established and equipped with expensive equipment and apparatus. There is now the newest modern diagnostic device represented by a magnetic resonance tomograph which greatly facilitated the diagnosis of complex and seriously ill patients.
Since 2004, telemedicine has been introduced to improve the availability of medical care to the rural population. Telemedicine allows doctors to give advice on diagnostics and treatment tactics directly from the regional hospital at any time of the day. Videoconferencing is held regularly.
Since 2012, a mobile medical unit equipped with modern diagnostic equipment has been operating at the regional hospital. Mobile Medical Unit attends rural districts and provides medical examination and consultation for rural residents according to the schedule. If the patients are turned out to be sick, they are referred to district and regional medical institutions.
As part of Densaulyk State Program for the Development of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhambyl Region designed a roadmap to implement an integrated healthcare model for 5 major socially significant non-communicable diseases that significantly affect the demographics of the country’s population: acute myocardial infarction, acute cerebral circulation (stroke), malignant neoplasms, injuries, pregnancy and childhood. Two of the five road maps, namely, the road maps for AMI and Acute Cerebrovascular Event are supervised by Zhubandykova R.M. the cardiologist and Momunalieva A.A. the neuropathologist who are considered leading specialists of the regional hospital. To achieve the hospital's key performance indicators, neurosurgical beds at the angioneurosurgery department has been operating since 2018.
Since 2017, ElsiMed Healthcare Information Systems has been introduced in Zhambyl Regional Hospital and since the beginning of 2019, the system allowed to reduce risks, costs of resources and labor costs. The use of the Healthcare Information System made it possible to store patient data on-line, which, in turn, allowed to review patient information by various specialists without exchanging paper examination reports and patient records in between.
In 2019, the Mobile Video Conferencing System was acquired within ECHO project (the ECHO project is designed to transfer knowledge, not patients, through doctors mentoring and training with a use of remote technologies. The ECHO project provides patients with universal access to high-quality specialized medical care). This system allows you to reduce the travel cost of professionals from other regions and states, as well as to train them remotely. This system has a mobile application that will reduce the time to enjoy operational consultation delivered by highly qualified specialists.
The staff of the regional hospital improves the quality of medical care to the population every year by introducing modern medical high-end technologies. The hospital's doctors are confident that they will continue to be leaders in the region in providing qualified medical assistance to the population.
