Discovery at the juncture of science

On February 10, 2014 Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Isekeshev accompanied by a group of senior officials of the Ministry within the framework of studying the state program implementation of forced industrial-innovative development of the country has visited the Joint Stock Company «Scientific Center for anti-infectious drugs». Minister stated that the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies has started forming innovative clusters in regions. In particular the innovation cluster in Almaty will be formed on the basis of innovative technologies park «Alatau».

PhD, professor, academician of KazNANS – M. Kulmanov – introduced the distinguished guest with the results of the Phases 1 and 2 of clinical trials of drug against tuberculosis with the code name «FS-1» and informed about the beginning of final Phase 3. «FS-1» has proved itself as a very effective drug that unlike the traditional methods of treatment it gives the first positive results within 3 to 4 weeks after its application.

In parallel with the «FS-1» the Center is preparing for Phase 1 of clinical trials of the drug – potentiator of antibiotics («PA»). Primary this drug aims at strengthening the effects of antibiotics on the organism when their impact effectiveness is reducing.

Vice – president of the Center, candidate of chemical sciences A. Kurmanbekov said that in 2013 the JSC «Scientific Center antiinfectious drugs» was accredited according to international standard with «Good laboratory practice» (GLP) in German Federal Bureau. This became a landmark event in the life of the Center because the obtainment of this certificate indicates a high level quality of ongoing research on the safety of medicines and chemicals and recognition of this fact by the international medical community with all ensuing consequences. It should be noted that accreditation by GLP in Kazakhstan is the first one on post-Soviet space.

President of the Center Doctor of Chemical Sciences, corresponding member KazNANS, A. Ilyin presented Minister the new innovative methods and approaches of search and screening of candidates for drugs used by the Center. Such high-tech methods are based on the application of 3D modeling of interaction processes of target-drugs together with the data of quantum – mechanical calculation of interacting substances structures. From A. Ilyin words the use of these methods in conjunction with the fundamental approach will permit to predict the effectiveness and specificity of substances – candidates for drugs at the same time reduce the costs of laboratory screening tests.
